Who We Are
Passionate about rewilding hearts, minds, and workplaces
- Our Story
Founded in 2013 by Maria Sprostranova, GreenWise People is dedicated to reconnecting people with nature, with each other, and with themselves. Drawing on Maria’s unique blend of studies in politics and international relations, experience in international business development,
post-grad studies in education, and Forest School education, we deliver training and programmes that bring the benefits of nature into organisations of all sizes, including schools, charities, and multinational corporations.
Our mission is simple: to inspire healthier, stronger, more connected, and more resilient communities while nurturing future guardians of the land for generations to come.

Marias Story
Maria Sprostranova is the visionary founder behind GreenWise People, dedicated to rekindling our connection with the natural world in both corporate and community landscapes. With an unwavering belief that nature is the ultimate teacher, Maria champions initiatives that inspire individuals and organisations to thrive through authentic nature-based experiences.
From Politics and Business to Education
Maria’s professional path began in the fast-paced worlds of politics and business, where she honed her skills in leadership, strategy, and cross-cultural collaboration. However, a growing desire to make a meaningful impact led her to refocus her career on education and wellbeing, particularly through nature’s lens.
Multicultural Roots
Born into a richly multicultural family, Maria’s early years were shaped by diverse traditions and perspectives. Her journey brought her from her Eastern European homeland to the UK, where she embraced new cultures and ideas that continue to inform her work today. This international background became the bedrock of her inclusive approach to learning and leadership.
Pioneering Forest School Leadership
A passionate advocate for outdoor learning, Maria became a trailblazer in Forest School leadership. She was among the first to champion this innovative approach in the UK, training as a Forest School Leader and developing transformative programmes for children and adults alike. Her work has empowered countless participants to discover confidence, creativity, and resilience in natural settings.
Founding GreenWise People
Driven by a vision to bring the benefits of nature connection to all, Maria founded GreenWise People. Under her guidance, the organisation has flourished, delivering bespoke nature-based programmes that enhance wellbeing, foster team cohesion, and ignite a lifelong love of learning. Maria’s approach is both grounded and pioneering, blending evidence-based practice with heartfelt creativity.
Collaborations and Community Impact
Today, Maria collaborates with a wide range of partners, from global businesses to local community groups, designing and facilitating programmes that nurture meaningful connections with the outdoors. Her work bridges sectors and cultures, always with a focus on positive impact and inclusivity.
Championing Change with The Wild Network
Maria serves on the council of The Wild Network, a leading movement for nature-connected communities. She played a key role in the creation of the acclaimed documentary “Project Wild Thing”, lending her expertise and voice to the campaign for children’s freedom to roam and play outdoors.
Philosophy and Motivation
Maria believes that “every moment spent in nature is an invitation to rediscover who we are and what truly matters.” Her life’s work is to help others embrace this truth, unlocking potential and joy through meaningful nature experiences.
